Socially responsible investing, also known as sustainable investing or ethical investing, describes an investment strategy which seeks to maximize both financial return and social good.

In general, socially responsible investors favor corporate best practices that promote environmental stewardship, consumer protection, human rights, and diversity. Some (but not all) avoid businesses involved in alcohol, tobacco, gambling, weapons, the military, and/or abortion.

The above definition, courtesy of Wikipedia, is a great starting point, but what does it really mean for the individual? How do we go about... well, ...Investing responsibly? InvestingResponsibly.org strives to answer that questions.

InvestingResponsibly.org was established to help bring together the ideas and people who are working to bring ethics back to business. Consumers, like you and us, will buy whatever it is that we want or need for the lowest possible price without much regard for how it may have been produced or sourced. Unfortunatley, the price we see on a sales slip is hardly its cost.

From the outrage over Nike's labour treatment at its oversees manufacturing facilities, a brighter spotlight has shawn on business and how they go about producing what we purchase each day. We hope that your visits to our site will help you make more informed decisions about the businesses you support with your purchasing habits and investment plans.
